Karma – What is Good Karma anyway?

Karma!  What is good Karma, may be a question you have asked yourself at some point.  It can be answered in many ways.  Often people think that because they have done something for another person and that person has no way of repaying, they consider this good Karma in that something good will be returned to them, in a different way.  But does anyone really understand what good or bad  Karma is?

Karma

We have all heard the sayings:

“Two wrongs do not make a right.”
“What goes around comes around”.
“My Karma ran over your dogma”

With, “Two wrongs don’t make a right”, consider this scenario.  On receiving your change in a store you notice that you have been given too much cash in return but you decide not to say anything.  However, when you get outside the store, you know that it is wrong!   A little voice in your head may tell you that it’s OK, because you have been over charged many times before.  You try to justify it to yourself.

However, on the other hand, that same voice within, may make you feel uncomfortable and then you begin to wonder if you should go back into the store or not.  So you have two choices to consider which are, either forget it and carry on with your day, or go back and return the money, explaining their error.

Your second choice will clear your conscious and the first choice could be your bad Karma to eventually come back to bite you in some way or another, or so a lot of people believe.

I am sure we have all done something in our lives that we wish we hadn’t and when certain unpleasant situations arise, they remind us of that ‘event’.  When things go bad, such as this recession, we wonder what we had done to deserve it?  Was it something in our past that we now had to pay back?  Can that really be true for the millions who have lost everything?

On the subject of what did we do to deserve it, how many of us have heard others saying those words and generally in annoyance?

There are some schools of thought, that Karma is a law of the universe and that anything you do which may cause suffering or unhappiness to another person or animal, will come back on to you.

Whilst it is important to always consider other people’s need and their situations, this way of thinking does not make any sense when you take into account all the children who were born with either an illness or a disability, plus all the disasters that happen around the world.

‘Instant Karma‘ was a song written by John Lennon 7 years before his tragic death.   The words to the song are prophetic.  But what dreadful deed did he do that justified another person taking his life.

“What did I do to deserve this?”  That is a question I ask myself daily when I look out at the magnificent view of the sun rising over the mountains.

Deepak Chopra stated that the law of Karma comes from the fact that every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind.

The Bible said “An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth!”

Would we not consider this to be bad Karma?
